I have been using a card reader since I bought my first Nikon Coolpix 990 (for $1000 new), I still use one, but it is a much faster ExpressCard/54 that downloads at 2.8Gbits/second vs the USB 2.0 at 480 mbits/second

Plug it into your computer and then put your camera&#039;s compact flash card in the reader.  It will show up on your computer as an external drive.
